How to Get to Erciyes and How Many Days You Need: Transport and Timing

The most practical way to get from Istanbul to Erciyes is to fly to Kayseri and take a short transfer from there to the mountain. Going by overnight coach or in your own car is also possible, but the long journey eats into your skiing time. In terms of length, 3 nights, 4 days is enough for most people, as it leaves two full ski days plus an optional Cappadocia day or an extra ski day.
Where is Erciyes?
Erciyes Ski Resort is on the slopes of Mount Erciyes, south of Kayseri city centre. Kayseri's airport is close to the city, which means those arriving by plane can reach the mountain with a short road transfer. The short distance between the city and the mountain makes Erciyes one of the relatively easy-to-reach ski resorts in Türkiye.
Transport options
By plane to Kayseri
There are regular flights from Istanbul to Kayseri. The advantage of flying is that you can set off in the morning and be on the mountain the same afternoon. For the transfer from the airport to Erciyes, you can use a pre-arranged vehicle, a taxi or a hire car.
The Kayseri Erciyes Ski and Cappadocia Tour follows this pattern: you fly from Istanbul to Kayseri, are met at the airport and transferred to the hotel on Erciyes. On the way back, there is a transfer to Kayseri Airport timed to your flight. This way you don't have to deal with hassles such as finding a taxi at the airport or navigating a snowy road.
By bus
There are intercity coach services from Istanbul to Kayseri, but the journey is long and usually overnight. Once you reach Kayseri, you need to arrange separate transport to Erciyes. It can be an option for young people on a budget who don't mind a long journey, but you have to accept that you may spend the first day of your ski holiday tired.
By your own car
Driving gives you flexible timing and plenty of luggage space; however, it is a long journey from Istanbul to Kayseri, and in winter there can be snow and ice on Central Anatolian roads. If you are going in your own car:
- Use winter tyres and carry chains.
- Plan the journey for daylight hours.
- If there is heavy snow on the mountain road, don't set off without checking road conditions.
- As your car will sit in the cold for days, have the antifreeze and battery checked.
How many days are enough?
Weekend (1–2 nights)
If you are flying, two nights is possible, but as the travel days are short, your time on the slopes is limited. It can work as a short break for experienced skiers; for first-timers, however, there is no time left to learn.
3 nights, 4 days: the balanced option
The 3 nights, 4 days programme stands out as the most balanced length for Erciyes:
- Day one: Flight, transfer, check-in and equipment hire. A short warm-up run if the weather allows.
- Day two: A full ski day. A lesson day for first-time skiers.
- Day three: Either a second full ski day or the optional Cappadocia trip.
- Day four: Breakfast and return.
This schedule balances out first-day fatigue and leaves a spare day in case of bad weather. The Cappadocia option also makes the holiday worthwhile for non-skiers. We describe how to make the most of the Cappadocia day in our Erciyes and Cappadocia winter programme article.
Longer
Those who want to learn to ski properly or improve their technique may want to stay longer. If you are considering a different length for your group, we finalise the programme together at the quote stage.
Making good use of travel time
- Sort out equipment on the first day. If you hire on arrival day, you won't be queuing the next morning.
- Don't squeeze your return day. Winter conditions can affect flight times; try not to schedule important work on your return day.
- Travel light. Wear some of your ski clothing on the journey; hiring boots, helmets and poles reduces your luggage.
- If you are bringing your own equipment, check the airline's sports equipment rules in advance.
Snow and weather
Snowfall and the opening and closing dates of the slopes vary each year with the weather. Erciyes's open slopes are also exposed to the wind. In the days before you set off, follow the weather forecast and the resort's current slope status. For the features of the slopes and suggestions for your level, have a look at our Erciyes ski guide. All winter options are on our ski holidays page.
For groups
If you are going to Erciyes with a school, company or group of friends, the transport plan involves far more detail than for individuals: flight times, gathering at the airport, carrying luggage and equipment, the order of hotel check-in. As flights, meeting and transfers are planned as a single flow in this programme, the group leaders' job is easier. If you share the number of people, the age range and the spread of skiing levels in advance, equipment hire and lessons can also be prepared for arrival day.
