Places to see

  • Turkic World Culture Houses

Houses in the Turkic World Culture Quarter, opened in 2009 inside Topkapı Culture Park in Zeytinburnu. The houses of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, the TRNC, Tatarstan and Bashkortostan display everyday objects, musical instruments, traditional costumes and handicrafts; you can also see Kazakh and Kyrgyz yurts and replicas of the Orkhon Inscriptions.

  • Panorama 1453 History Museum

Located in Topkapı, opposite the land walls, the museum opened on 31 January 2009. The 360-degree panoramic painting on the inner surface of a dome 38 metres in diameter brings to life the conquest of Istanbul by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror on 29 May 1453, at the moment the walls were breached.

  • Rahmi M. Koç Museum

Founded by Rahmi M. Koç, the museum opened on 13 December 1994 in Hasköy on the shore of the Golden Horn. It occupies the historic Lengerhane building, where anchors and chains were made for the Ottoman navy, and the shipyard site established by Şirket-i Hayriye in 1861. The collection focuses on the history of transport, industry and communications, with road and rail vehicles and maritime and aviation exhibits on display.

  • Maiden's Tower

A historic tower on a small islet at the southern entrance of the Bosphorus, about 200 metres off the Üsküdar shore. It is known to have been built in 1110 under the Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos; the present stone structure was renewed in the 18th century. After restoration work that began in 2021, it reopened to visitors in May 2023.
